"FLOORING & FOOTWEAR TEST LABORATORY"
BACKGROUND
Donald Meserlian PE is a recognized expert in the
measurement of the slip-resistance of both walkways and
footwear, under both dry and wet conditions. He has authored
16 papers on the subject and presented a paper at the
Ergonomics Association’s International Conference in Tamper,
Finland, 1997. This major paper, “A Proposed International
Specification/Test Method for slip-Resistant Walkways and
Footwear, In the Field and Laboratory as Measured by A
Drag-Type Friction Tester”, was the basis for formation of
the Voices of Safety International (VOSI) standards writing
organization.
VOSI is an international standards writing organization
that, in addition to writing slip & fall standards, has
added standards for health, safety and the environment.
VOSI is recognized by the National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST), and its slip and fall standards are

PURPOSE
Attorneys who litigate slip & fall cases typically will
only measure the slip-resistance of the walkway surface.
Slipping involves the properties of both the walkway and the
footwear.
The Flooring & Footwear Test Laboratory is offering a
unique service to test both walkway surfaces and the shoes of
plaintiffs involved in slip & fall accidents.
